A photo of my grandfather on the right and his great nephew on the left.

I knew very little about Samuel Duff my grandfather's family. He moved to the USA from Scotland in 1911 at 31 yrs old. Samuel was born in Kilsyth. He had an older brother and 3 younger sisters that we knew very little about.

My grandfather's older brother David Duff the First and Samuel never kept up with each other. After getting on Ancestry.com I found a connection to David Duff  I was totally shocked. After connecting I found David had a son named David Duff in 1900.  Then that David Duff had another son David Chalmers Duff my 2nd cousin also born in Kilsyth.

When I got this photo from David C Duff's wife I was amazed at how much they looked alike. I would have to say my 2nd cousin looks so much like his great uncle.

I can only say WOW.

Family graves in Murkirk, Scotland Dad's Houston/Dickson Family

Does she look like she is thinking - her Mom and Grandma are a little crazy for taking photo's in front of Family Graves? 

 Church door were Elizabeth's 4th great grandparents were married. Janet Dickson/ John Houston. 

 We let her have some fun collecting flowers!

John Houston and Janet Dickson

Today Mark and I drove to Murikirk, Scotland. The home of John Houston and Janet Dickson. We went to the Murikirk Cemetery and the caretaker was working. He came over to see if he could help us find a grave site. When I told him who I was looking for he took me to the office and pulled all the papers. I took photos and will be able to decide exactly which relatives are buried where. 

This is the Parish Church in Muirkirk where John Houston and Janet Dickson were married. That would be my great great grand parents. 

This is the headstone of the Dickson Family. As you might see many of the headstones are in bad shape. I am sure Janet and George are here but their headstones is more than likely destroyed from time. 

The one on the right is also Dickson

These are 2 headstones for the Houston Family just in front of the Dickson headstone.

Janet Dickson and John Houston

I am finally on the hunt. I knew my Dad's family was from Muirkirk but had no idea where they might be buried. After a lot of emails and inquires I still was none the wiser. Dorothy, Callum, and I headed out to Muirkirk just 18 miles away. We went to the local Cemetery and with a list of names we started looking for the names. We had really looked all over the cemetery and about to give up because it had started rainning I turned the corner and about 3 gravestones later I saw HOUSTON. Upon looking at names and dates I found one of the gravesites. The headstone was broken but still very readable.

Then we had to dig down to find out which Janet Dickson Houston it was. It is the orginal Janet Dickson's grand daughter.
